The city of Krakow is the capital city of the Malopolskie (Lesser Poland or Little Poland) province in the southern region of Poland.
It covers both banks of the Wisla (or Vistula) river. Uplands region at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. It is Poland's second largest city, with a population of 756,000 in 2007 (1.4 million after including surrounding communities).
